Ingredients
Salad
| Ingredient | Amount & Notes |
|---|---|
| Ripe tomatoes | 4–5 (cherry, grape, or heirloom) |
| Small red onion | 1, thinly sliced |
| Small cucumber | 1, sliced or diced |
| Fresh basil leaves | A handful, torn or chopped |
| Optional cheese | Crumbled feta or mozzarella pearls |
Dressing
| Ingredient | Amount & Notes |
|---|---|
| Extra-virgin olive oil | 3 tablespoons |
| Red wine or balsamic vinegar | 1 tablespoon |
| Garlic | 1 clove, finely minced or grated |
| Dijon mustard | 1 teaspoon |
| Honey or maple syrup | 1/2 teaspoon, for a touch of sweetness |
| Salt and pepper | To taste |
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Vegetables
Rinse the tomatoes and cucumber thoroughly. Cut them into bite-sized pieces, and thinly slice the red onion.
Step 2: Make the Dressing
In a small bowl (or a jar with a lid), combine the olive oil, vinegar, minced garlic, Dijon mustard, honey, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Whisk or shake until smooth and emulsified. Adjust the seasoning as desired.
Step 3: Combine the Salad
Place the chopped tomatoes, cucumber, onion, and basil in a large mixing bowl. Add the cheese, if you’re using it. Pour the dressing over the top and toss gently to coat all ingredients evenly. Let the salad rest for 5–10 minutes so the flavors can meld.
Step 4: Serve and Enjoy
Serve right away for the freshest flavor. If you have leftovers, store them covered in the refrigerator for up to one day.
