Grandma’s Custard Pie

Classic Homemade Custard Pie
This timeless custard pie is smooth, creamy, and perfectly sweet — a simple dessert baked in a golden, flaky crust that tastes just like a cozy homemade classic.
Ingredients
For the Crust:
- 1 unbaked pre-made pie crust
For the Custard Filling:
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 cups whole milk (or half-and-half)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Gently fit the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish, trimming and crimping the edges as desired.
Step 2: Make the Custard Filling
In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, and salt until smooth. Gradually stir in the milk, then mix in the vanilla extract until fully combined.
Step 3: Fill the Pie Shell
Pour the custard mixture into the prepared crust, filling it about three-quarters full. Sprinkle lightly with nutmeg if you like a classic flavor.
Step 4: Bake the Pie
Place the pie on a baking sheet and bake for 45–55 minutes, or until the custard is mostly set with a slight jiggle in the center. If the edges brown too quickly, cover them with foil.
Step 5: Cool and Serve
Let the pie cool completely on a wire rack to allow the custard to firm up. Slice and enjoy plain or topped with whipped cream for an extra treat.
