Joke: He taps the cabbie on the shoulder — and everything goes crazy

It was the end of a long workday, and a man was finally heading home. To his annoyance, his usual bus route had been canceled that evening. Needing a quick way back, he ordered a taxi instead — a choice that would lead to an unexpectedly hilarious and dramatic moment.
Once the ride began, he sat in the back seat, expecting nothing more than a calm, ordinary trip. But as they made their way through a busy part of town, he noticed something off. The driver sailed right past a major turn the man knew they needed.
A Small Tap, A Big Reaction
Wanting to help before they drifted too far off track, the passenger leaned forward carefully. He didn’t want to startle the driver — just get his attention. Gently tapping the cabbie on the shoulder, he started to say, “Excuse me, Sir, but—”
What happened next was wildly unexpected.
The driver let out a loud, startled yell — “AAAAAAHHHH!” — and jerked the wheel in panic. The taxi suddenly veered out of control, swerving all over the road. They narrowly avoided colliding with a bus, bounced onto the sidewalk, and almost clipped a cyclist. After scraping along a fire hydrant, the cab screeched to a stop, resting only a foot away from a shop window.
The Aftermath
For a solid few seconds, the car fell completely silent. Both men just sat there, stunned by what had almost happened.
Finally, the shaken driver turned around and, still catching his breath, said firmly, “Please… never do that again. You nearly scared the life out of me!”
The passenger apologized right away. “I’m so sorry. I honestly didn’t think a small tap would frighten you like that.”
The Twist
The cabbie exhaled, trying to calm down. “No, it’s really not your fault,” he said. Then he offered an explanation that put everything into perspective — and delivered the punchline of the whole situation.
“Today’s actually my first day driving a taxi,” he said. “For the last 25 years… I’ve been driving a hearse!”
