Savory Herb and Cheese Biscuit Loaf
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs (parsley or chives)
- 1 cup whole milk
Instructions:
Step 1: Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with butter or non-stick spray.
Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and sugar until well combined.
Step 3: Incorporate Butter: Add the cold butter cubes to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter in until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
Step 4: Add Cheese and Herbs: Stir in the shredded cheddar and chopped herbs, distributing them evenly.
Step 5: Add Milk: Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the milk. Gently stir until just combined; the dough will be thick.
Step 6: Bake: Transfer the dough to the prepared loaf pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 40–45 minutes, until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Step 7: Cool and Serve: Let the loaf cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then move it to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and serve warm.
