Ingredients:
| Ingredient | Quantity |
| All-purpose flour | 1/2 cup |
| Cornmeal | 1 Tbsp. |
| Granulated sugar | 1 Tbsp. |
| Baking powder | 2 tsp. |
| Whole milk | 1/2 cup |
| Chopped onions | 2 cups |
| Salt and pepper | To taste |
| Oil | For frying |
How To Make Amish Onion Fritters:
- Step 1: Prepare the Batter: Place all of the ingredients minus the oil for frying into a mixing bowl (that’s the 1/2 cup flour, 1 Tbsp. cornmeal, 1 Tbsp. sugar, 2 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 cup milk, 2 cups chopped onions, salt, and pepper). Stir together until the batter is well combined.
- Step 2: Heat the Oil: Heat 1/2 to 1 inch of oil in a deep-sided skillet over medium-high heat on the stove. The oil should reach a temperature of at least 350∘F (175∘C) for best results.
- Step 3: Fry the Fritters: When the oil is hot, drop the batter into the skillet by the tablespoonful, spreading each drop out a bit to flatten the fritter as you go.
- Step 4: Drain and Serve: Brown the fritters on one side, flip them, and brown them on the other (usually 2-3 minutes per side) before removing them to drain on a paper towel-lined rack. Serve warm with sour cream or your favorite dipping sauce if desired.
