Milk (for meatloaf)1 cup
Dried bread crumbs1 cup
Salt and pepperTo taste
Potatoes, peeled2 pounds
Butter (for potatoes)1/4 cup
Milk (for potatoes)1/2 cup
Shredded cheddar cheese1 cup

How to Make It

Meatloaf

Step 1: Heat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2: Combine Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, add the ground beef, egg, chopped onion, milk, dried bread crumbs, and season with salt and pepper. Stir or mix until everything is evenly combined.

Step 3: Shape and Bake
Form the meat mixture into a loaf and place it in a lightly greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Bake for 1 hour, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).

Mashed Potatoes

Step 4: Cook the Potatoes
While the meatloaf bakes, boil the peeled, quartered potatoes in salted water until tender—about 15 minutes.

Step 5: Mash
Drain the potatoes, then add butter and milk. Mash until smooth, creamy, and seasoned to taste.

Assembly

Step 6: Remove Extra Fat
After the meatloaf finishes baking, carefully pour off any grease from the dish.

Step 7: Top and Layer
Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the meatloaf, then sprinkle cheddar cheese on top.

Step 8: Bake Again
Return to the oven for 15 minutes, or until the cheese melts and turns lightly golden.

Step 9: Rest and Serve
Let the dish sit for a few minutes before slicing and serving warm.
