Oven-Braised Beer Brats with Caramelized Onions and Apples
Ingredients:
| INGREDIENT | AMOUNT |
|---|---|
| Olive oil | 2 tablespoons |
| Butter | 2 tablespoons |
| Large onions, thinly sliced | 2 |
| Apples, cored and sliced | 2 |
| Garlic cloves, minced | 3 |
| Bratwursts | 6 |
| Beer | 1 cup |
| Beef broth | 1 cup |
| Dijon mustard | 2 tablespoons |
| Salt and pepper | To taste |
| Fresh parsley (optional) | For garnish |
Instructions:
Step 1: Heat the Oven and Pan
Warm the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place a large oven-safe skillet or Dutch oven on the stovetop and melt the olive oil and butter over medium heat.
Step 2: Cook Onions and Apples
Add the sliced onions and apples. Let them cook, stirring occasionally, until they become soft and develop a golden, caramelized color—about 20–25 minutes.
Step 3: Add Garlic
Mix in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until aromatic.
Step 4: Add Brats and Liquids
Arrange the bratwursts in the skillet among the onions and apples. Pour in the beer and beef broth so the sausages are mostly submerged.
Step 5: Season
Whisk in the Dijon mustard and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper.
Step 6: Braise in the Oven
Bring everything to a gentle simmer, then transfer the uncovered skillet to the oven. Bake for 30–40 minutes, or until the bratwursts reach a safe internal temperature and have soaked up the flavors.
Step 7: Serve
Top with chopped parsley if you’d like, then serve warm.
