Chopped dill pickle spears2

For the Bread:

IngredientQuantity
Refrigerated French bread dough1 (11 oz) tube
Large egg, beaten1
Sesame seeds1 tbsp

For Serving:

  • Thousand Island dressing

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Filling

  • Cook the Beef and Onion: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until browned and tender (about 8–10 minutes), crumbling the beef as it cooks. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Add Flavor: Drain excess fat. Let the mixture cool slightly, then stir in ketchup, mustard, and crumbled bacon.

2. Assemble the Bread

  • Preheat and Prep: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment or lightly grease it.
  • Roll Out the Dough: On a floured surface, roll out the French bread dough into a 12×8-inch rectangle.
  • Layer the Filling: Spread the beef mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border. Top with chopped dill pickles and a layer of American cheese slices.
  • Roll and Seal: Starting from a long side, roll the dough into a tight log. Pinch seams and ends to seal. Place seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.

3. Bake the Garbage Bread

  • Egg Wash & Sesame Seeds: Brush the top with beaten egg and sprinkle sesame seeds.
  • Bake: Bake 25–30 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through.

4. Serve

  • Allow to cool slightly before slicing.
  • Serve warm with Thousand Island dressing for dipping.
