Ultimate Air Fryer Grilled Cheese Sandwich

The air fryer creates a grilled cheese sandwich like no other, with a perfectly golden, crispy exterior and delectably melted, gooey cheese inside—all without the need to constantly flip it on the stove.
Air Fryer Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Ingredients:
| Ingredient | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Bread (sourdough, white, whole wheat, or your favorite type) | 2 slices |
| Cheese (cheddar, American, Swiss, mozzarella, or a blend) | 1–2 slices |
| Butter, softened (or mayonnaise for extra crispiness) | As needed |
Optional Add-ins:
- Sliced tomatoes
- Cooked bacon
- Avocado
- Caramelized onions
Instructions:
Step 1: Preheat the Air Fryer
Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 2–3 minutes. This ensures your sandwich cooks immediately and develops a crispy, golden crust.
Step 2: Assemble the Sandwich
Spread a thin layer of softened butter or mayonnaise on one side of each bread slice. (Mayonnaise on the outside adds an extra-crispy, golden finish!) Place one slice of bread, buttered/mayo-side down, on a plate. Layer your cheese on top (1–2 slices). If using optional add-ins like tomatoes or bacon, add them now. Top with the second slice of bread, buttered/mayo-side up.
Step 3: Cook in the Air Fryer
Place the sandwich carefully into the preheated air fryer basket, leaving enough space for air to circulate. Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 4–5 minutes. Using tongs, flip the sandwich and cook for another 2–3 minutes, until both sides are golden brown and the cheese is melted and gooey.
Step 4: Rest and Serve
Remove the sandwich and let it rest on a cutting board or plate for 1 minute. This helps the cheese set slightly. Slice diagonally and serve warm with your favorite sides, like tomato soup or chips.
